Troubleshooting

Most issues fall into one of the categories below. If nothing here helps, email hello@wallieframe.com with a description and your frame’s serial number (on the back).

  1. Make sure the frame’s LED is slowly blinking blue — that’s setup mode.
  2. If it’s solid green or off, press the power button once to wake it, then try again.
  3. Bluetooth on your phone is on, right?
  4. Move closer to the frame — Bluetooth has a limited range.
  5. Last resort: factory reset and start over.
  • Double-check the password (case-sensitive).
  • 5 GHz-only networks aren’t supported. Wallie needs 2.4 GHz.
  • If your network has a captive portal (hotel/cafe), that won’t work — use Direct Transfer instead.
  • The app shows a signal-strength indicator before you commit to a network. If it’s flagged as weak, pick another network or use Direct Transfer.

”Wrong password” but I’m sure it’s right

Section titled “”Wrong password” but I’m sure it’s right”

Type it in carefully one more time. If it fails again, the frame returns to setup — re-enter from scratch. Make sure caps lock is off and that special characters in the password are exactly right.

The photo looks softer / less saturated than on my phone

Section titled “The photo looks softer / less saturated than on my phone”

That’s expected — Wallie reflects light like a real print rather than glowing like a phone screen. Some photos translate beautifully; others are a better fit for screens. See Image Tips for what looks best.

  • Wallie may be framing that photo. In the app, tap Resume Album to go back to the album rotation.
  • Your schedule may be paused. Check the frame’s settings in the app.
  • If you’re offline, the frame can only rotate through what it already has. Send more photos via Direct Transfer or reconnect Wi-Fi.

The e-ink display flashes when changing photos

Section titled “The e-ink display flashes when changing photos”

That’s the display cycling through its colors during a refresh — a normal part of how e-ink works. Each refresh takes about 30 seconds.

  • Responsive Mode uses more battery. Turn it off when you don’t need it.
  • Frequent schedule (e.g. every 30 minutes) drains faster than the default 3-hour cadence.
  1. Plug in via USB-C and let it charge for a few minutes — battery may be fully drained.
  2. Press the power button once. You should see a light right away.
  3. If still nothing, do a factory reset.

Something failed during a refresh — usually a network error or a temporarily corrupted download. The frame will retry on its next scheduled wake. If you see red persistently, do a factory reset.

My phone can’t find the Wallie-XXXXXX network

Section titled “My phone can’t find the Wallie-XXXXXX network”
  • The frame has to be set up with Skip Wi-Fi setup for this network to exist. If it was set up with Wi-Fi, see “I want to switch between Wi-Fi and offline modes” below.
  • Wake the frame first (a quick press of the power button), then start the transfer from the app.
  • On iOS, the network sometimes requires manual selection in Settings → Wi-Fi.
  • The network only stays open for a few minutes after each wake. If it’s gone, wake the frame again.
  • Cancel from the app and retry — the connection occasionally drops.
  • Make sure your phone hasn’t auto-switched back to home Wi-Fi mid-transfer.

I want to switch between Wi-Fi and offline modes

Section titled “I want to switch between Wi-Fi and offline modes”

The mode you choose during initial setup (Wi-Fi vs Skip Wi-Fi setup) is the mode the frame stays in. There’s no in-app toggle to switch.

To change modes:

  1. Factory reset the frame.
  2. Pair it again as if it were new.
  3. Pick the other mode this time.

Your photos and account come back as soon as you re-pair.

Turn the frame off — hold the button until you see solid red, then release while it’s still red. Wait 10 seconds, then press once to wake. Most transient issues clear up here.

A factory reset wipes Wi-Fi, account pairing, and any locally cached photos from the frame. Your photos in the cloud and your Wallie account are not affected — re-pairing brings everything back.

Hold the power button and watch the lights. Don’t count seconds — the lights tell you exactly what stage you’re in:

What you seeWhat it means
NothingA quick press just wakes Wallie. Release.
Solid redShutdown zone. Release here to power off.
All lights flashingReset warning. Release here to cancel — nothing happens.
All lights go dark (a few seconds after the flashing starts)Reset triggered. Release — Wallie is wiping itself and restarting.
Blinking blue (after reboot)Wallie is back to factory settings and ready to pair again.

So to do a factory reset, keep holding through every stage above until the flashing lights suddenly go dark. That darkness is your cue to release. The whole hold takes around ten seconds — but trust the lights, not the clock.

If you change your mind partway through, release while the lights are still flashing and nothing will happen.

After a factory reset, follow Getting Started again. Your photos and account come back as soon as you re-pair.

Important: before re-pairing the frame, clear it from the app: Frames → tap the frame → Device Information → Factory Reset. Otherwise the app won’t let you pair it fresh.
